How to Search Middlesex County Inmate Records
The Middlesex County Adult Correction Center publishes an online inmate lookup. It runs on the Archonix XJail public portal, which the jail uses for booking, release, and wanted searches. The tool lets the public search for someone currently or recently held, in keeping with state open-records rules. It is the official county jail roster, not a third-party site.
Have a name ready, or an inmate number if you know it. The portal limits booking and release date ranges to 14 days at a time, so plan to search in windows. The roster shows custody status; it does not show the full criminal case.
- Open the county inmate lookup page and launch the Archonix XJail public portal.
- Accept the disclaimer and choose the Booking Search tab.
- Enter a last and first name, or an inmate number.
- Add a booking date range of 14 days or less to narrow results.
- Open the matching record to view booking details and any warrant fields.
The official portal opens from the county Adult Corrections inmate-lookup page.

The tabs across the top switch between current bookings, same-day bookings, and same-day releases.

Middlesex County Jail Roster Search Fields
The booking search offers several fields and filters. Name fields drive most public searches, while date and agency filters help when a name is common. The table lists the booking-search fields on the portal.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inmate Number | Text | No | Up to 12 characters. |
| Last / First Name | Text | No | Public name search. |
| Booking From / To | Date | No | Range cannot exceed 14 days. |
| Gender | Dropdown | No | Blank, Male, or Female. |
| Holding / Billing Agency | Dropdown | No | Statewide agency list. |
| Current Inmate Only | Checkbox | No | Limits to those still in custody. |
| Search / Clear | Buttons | Yes | Runs or resets the booking search. |
Booked Today and Released Today Tabs
The portal is more than one search. Three tabs split the data by purpose. Booking Search covers a date range you set. Booked Today lists same-day intakes. Released Today lists people let out that day. For a recent arrest, Booked Today is the quickest check.
An A through Z quick-search row also lets you jump by the first letter of a last name. Because releases and bookings move fast, the same-day tabs can change through the day. If a name is not there yet, it may appear after the next update, or a call to the jail can confirm.
What a Middlesex County Inmate Record Shows
A roster result returns a set of booking and descriptor fields. These identify the person and the booking event and may include warrant details when one applies. The table maps each field to what it tells you.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The booked person's name. |
| Inmate / Booking Number | IDs tied to the booking. |
| Booking Date / Time | When the person was booked in. |
| Race / Gender | Basic descriptors. |
| Height / Weight | Physical descriptors at intake. |
| Release Date / Time | When released, if applicable. |
| Warrant Fields | Warrant ID, type, status, and issuing agency. |
Note: The roster does not publish a date of birth or housing location, and it warns that misusing the data can bring legal consequences.
Posting Bail Before Release
If a person in custody has bail set, posting it is how they get out before the case ends. New Jersey reform shifted many cases to risk-based release, but cash and property bail still apply in some matters. Bail can change as charges from other jurisdictions come in, so the total is not always what the first notice said.
Before posting, call Records at 732-951-3355 to confirm all charges and the full amount. Cash bail can be posted at the North Brunswick facility 24 hours a day, with exact cash, a postal money order, or a certified bank check, because change is not given. An indictable charge carries a $50 filing fee. Property bail goes through Criminal Finance at the courthouse, with a $30 fee for Middlesex property or $60 for property in another New Jersey county.
Visitation Schedule and Rules
The jail supports visits as a privilege tied to good behavior, not an automatic right. New intakes generally cannot have video visits until after the first seven days. After that, an eligible inmate gets two video visits per week if not in disciplinary status. A visitor list must be submitted first, and an inmate may list up to six visitors.
Personal video visits follow a set weekly schedule.
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Wednesday | 12:30 p.m.-3:15 p.m.; 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. |
| Thursday | 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. |
| Friday | 12:30 p.m.-3:15 p.m.; 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. |
| Saturday | 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. |
| Sunday | 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. |
Key visit rules to keep in mind:
- Only two adult visitors at a time, each with no more than one child.
- Visitors under 18 must come with a parent or legal guardian.
- All visitors present valid photo ID and are subject to search.
- A visit has a 15-minute minimum, and monitors shut off after 20 minutes.
Money, Phone, and Commissary
Families can fund accounts and order items through approved vendors. The inmate phone system runs on Global Tel*Link. Funds and SecurePak orders go through the AccessCatalog vendor. Tablet funding runs through GTL and GettingOut. These are the official channels; outside services are not connected to the jail.
Professional visits, such as those by an attorney, run Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no appointment needed. Special accommodation and conference requests are reviewed case by case through the jail's social services. A dress code applies to all visitors, banning revealing or restricted clothing.
State and Federal Inmate Searches
The county roster only covers the local jail. People sentenced to state prison move to the Department of Corrections, which has its own offender search. Federal inmates are found through a separate federal locator. Knowing where someone is held decides which tool to use.
The New Jersey Department of Corrections offender search covers state-prison inmates.

For federal custody, the Bureau of Prisons locator searches inmates from 1982 to present. For release alerts across agencies, VINELink offers custody notifications. The released inmates page covers these state and federal tools in detail.
Limits of Public Jail Data
The roster is useful but narrow. It does not publish a full charge sheet, bond breakdown, or housing pod, and it may not confirm a mugshot on every record. It also will not show sealed or protected matters. For the actual case, the court system is the source, not the jail tool.
Population counts and capacity are not on the public roster either. The inmate population page explains what the county does and does not publish about jail numbers. For warrants tied to a booking, see the warrant search page.
The Booking and Intake Process
A roster entry starts with an arrest and a booking. At intake, staff record the person's name, descriptors, and the charges that brought them in. A booking number and an inmate number are assigned, and those IDs follow the person through the system. This is the data that feeds the public roster, which is why a name can appear soon after an arrest.
From there, the court side takes over. A first appearance sets early release conditions, and under New Jersey reform many decisions rest on a risk assessment rather than a cash amount. Some people are released within hours; others are held pending a detention hearing. Because the jail and the court move on separate clocks, the roster status and the court docket may not line up minute to minute. The roster tells you custody status; the court docket tells you where the case stands.
Tips for Finding the Right Inmate
Name searches can be tricky, so a few habits help. Try the full legal name first, then a shortened or alternate spelling. Middle names and suffixes sometimes change how a name is stored. If the person was booked on a known date, set a tight booking window of 14 days or less around it to cut the result list down.
The Current Inmate Only checkbox is useful when you only care about who is still held. Leave it unchecked if you want to catch a recent release. If you have an inmate number from an earlier notice or a phone call, that is the cleanest way to pull the exact record without sorting through similar names. Common surnames return the most matches, so the more detail you add, the faster you land on the right person.
When Someone Is Not on the Roster
A blank result does not always mean a mistake. The person may have been released, moved to another facility, or never booked into the county jail at all. Juveniles are handled separately through Youth Services and do not appear on the adult roster. Someone sentenced to state prison will have moved to the Department of Corrections, and a federal arrest leads to a federal facility instead.
If the roster comes up empty, the next steps are simple. Call the jail at 732-297-3636 to confirm custody, check the Released Today tab for a same-day release, or use the state and federal tools above. For release alerts going forward, VINELink can notify you when custody status changes at a participating agency. A phone call often settles a question the roster cannot.
